IBM unveiled modern know-how to in the reduction of vigour outages via helping power businesses call where bushes and different vegetation may additionally intimidate energy strains. IBM labored with Oncor, the largest utility enterprise in Texas and the fifth largest in the u.s., to foster an own tailor-made for the power and utility industry, to aid extend operations and provide official electric provider for millions of shoppers across the state.
The weather trade Vegetation management - call is built on IBM PAIRS Geoscope, a expertise developed through IBM research. The device immediately techniques big, knotty geospatial and time-based mostly datasets accrued by means of satellites, drones, aerial flights, millions of IoT sensors and climate models.
The resulting insights can attend agencies like Oncor to monitor vegetation extend across their all provider territory, enabling them to more desirable establish and call talents infringement with energy traces. companies can greater proactively and accurately procedure for preventive protection and hasty response, focusing crews in the optimum-priority areas and validating that imperative trimming was achieved as anticipated.
"electrical energy is an essential partake of their lives, and thousands and thousands of Texans depend on Oncor every day. Vegetation poses a significant haphazard to power traces and the surrounding areas, however monitoring it is a challenging and time-consuming system," says Peter Stoltman, vegetation management software manager, Oncor. "by artery of working with IBM, they are able to exercise analytics and AI to prioritize excessive-risk areas. This helps us reconcile renovation operations to enrich public defense and repair reliability."
Vegetation is a leading understanding behind service interruption for utility corporations. With natural approaches, the basic insight into skills hazards involves expensive on-site inspections or realizing the remaining time an district changed into trimmed. With this modern answer, a all bunch of miles of transmission and distribution traces could live regularly monitored to deliver ceaseless perception concerning the condition of extend and renovation. apart from assisting identify and call outage threats, geospatial-temporal insights can aid with typical grid reliability and compliance, wildfire prevention, storm management and evaluation.
“Our utilities clients told us that getting distinctive perception into the condition of vegetation across their service territory was a key challenge,” says Mahesh Sudhakaran, chief digital officer of IBM power, ambiance and Utilities. "by artery of combining PAIRS with AI and trade knowledge, they can give customers one built-in answer, delivered via IBM Hybrid Cloud, to attend them call and exploit vegetation in a value-effective and ingenious means.”
“every trade is littered with weather. however for energy organizations and their consumers, it may denote the change between no matter if they can preserve the lights on and heat their buildings,” says Cameron Clayton, IBM’s regular manager of Watson Media and climate. “The potential to layer weather records with satellite and sensor records offers utility businesses potent modern insights to assist them better operations and minimize impact on their consumers.”
PAIRS Geoscope ingests more than 10 terabytes of modern information per day and has already served more than 15 million requests from greater than four,000 researchers, information scientists and developers in eighty nations. It gets rid of the labor-intensive system of generating insights from geospatial-temporal facts, which is universal for its sheer measurement and complexity. The inability to access, question and analyze this class of massive facts in a scalable manner is the purpose it turned into lengthy regarded unsearchable information. IBM scientists invented a modern system to flee and analyze advanced queries inside minutes as a substitute of weeks or months, making previously inconceivable insights now a truth.
PAIRS Geoscope is often attainable for divide industries and exercise circumstances. moreover Vegetation management - Predict, PAIRS is additionally the underlying know-how for Watson resolution Platform for Agriculture, a collection of agribusiness tools that uses the vitality of AI and geospatial records to attend farmers build extra informed selections about their plants.

in the decade after the 9/eleven assaults, the manhattan metropolis Police department moved to position millions of latest Yorkers under consistent watch. Warning of terrorism threats, the department created a procedure to carpet vast apple’s downtown streets with thousands of cameras and had, by artery of 2008, centralized its video surveillance operations to a separate command center. Two years later, the NYPD introduced that the command middle, ordinary because the lessen long island safety Coordination center, had built-in slicing-facet video analytics utility into elect cameras throughout the city.
The video analytics application captured stills of individuals caught on closed-circuit tv photos and instantly labeled the photos with physical tags, reminiscent of clothing colour, permitting police to straight away search through hours of video for photographs of people matching an contour of activity. on the time, the utility changed into additionally starting to generate signals for unattended applications, automobiles speeding up a highway in the wrong route, or americans getting into limited areas.
over the years, the NYPD has shared most effective occasional, minuscule updates on the program’s progress. In a 2011 interview with Scientific American, as an instance, Inspector Salvatore DiPace, then commanding officer of the reduce manhattan safety Initiative, referred to the police department changed into testing no matter if the utility may container out photographs of individuals’s faces as they passed with the aid of subway cameras and in consequence cull through the pictures for a lot of unspecified “facial features.”
while facial focus know-how, which measures particular person faces at over sixteen,000 elements for excellent-grained comparisons with other facial images, has attracted vast felony scrutiny and media consideration, this protest identification application has mostly refrained from consideration. How precisely this technology came to live developed and which selected features the application changed into developed to catalog hold by no means been revealed publicly by the NYPD.
Now, because of confidential company files and interviews with most of the technologists worried in setting up the utility, The Intercept and the Investigative Fund hold realized that IBM started constructing this protest identification know-how the exercise of covert entry to NYPD digicam photos. With entry to pictures of heaps of unknowing modern Yorkers provided up by artery of NYPD officers, as early as 2012, IBM become growing modern search aspects that permit different police departments to peer camera footage for photographs of individuals with the aid of hair color, facial hair, and dermis tone.
IBM declined to touch upon its exercise of NYPD photos to develop the application. although, in an email response to questions, the NYPD did inform The Intercept that “Video, once in a while, became supplied to IBM to build certain that the product they hold been setting up would labor within the crowded urban NYC ambiance and attend us give protection to the metropolis. there is nothing in the NYPD’s settlement with IBM that prohibits sharing statistics with IBM for system evolution applications. additional, every separate companies who enter into contractual agreements with the NYPD hold absolutely the requirement to maintain every separate records furnished through the NYPD personal perquisite through the time era of the settlement, after the completion of the contract, and in the sustain that the agreement is terminated.”
In an electronic mail to The Intercept, the NYPD established that select counterterrorism officials had entry to a pre-released edition of IBM’s software, which covered epidermis tone search capabilities, as early because the summer time of 2012. NYPD spokesperson Peter Donald pointed out the quest traits had been best used for comparison purposes and that officers hold been prompt no longer to include the skin tone search duty in their evaluation. The department eventually decided now not to integrate the analytics application into its bigger surveillance architecture, and phased out the IBM software in 2016.
After checking out out these fleshly search points with the NYPD, IBM launched some of these capabilities in a 2013 product liberate. Later types of IBM’s software retained and improved these fleshly search capabilities. (IBM did not respond to a question concerning the present availability of its video analytics classes.)
asked in regards to the secrecy of this collaboration, the NYPD mentioned that “quite a lot of elected leaders and stakeholders” hold been briefed on the department’s efforts “to retain this city secure,” adding that sharing digicam access with IBM became imperative for the tackle to work. IBM didn't reply to a question about why the enterprise didn’t build this collaboration public. Donald stated IBM gave the offshoot licenses to apply the tackle to 512 cameras, but mentioned the analytics hold been proven on “fewer than fifty.” He brought that IBM personnel had entry to certain cameras for the only actual goal of configuring NYPD’s gadget, and that the department station safeguards in station to give protection to the information, including “non-disclosure agreements for each individual gaining access to the gadget; non-disclosure agreements for the companies the vendors labored for; and background exams.”
Civil liberties advocates contend that modern Yorkers may still were made privy to the skills exercise of their actual records for a non-public company’s building of surveillance expertise. The revelations near as a city council bill that could require NYPD transparency about surveillance acquisitions continues to languish, due, partially, to outspoken opposition from long island metropolis Mayor bill de Blasio and the NYPD.dermis Tone Search technology, refined on modern Yorkers
IBM’s preparatory breakthroughs in protest consciousness technology hold been expected for technologies like self-using cars or vivid recognition on the web, pointed out Rick Kjeldsen, a former IBM researcher. however after 9/eleven, Kjeldsen and a few of his colleagues realized their software became greatest for counterterror surveillance.
“After 9/11, the funding sources and the customer interest basically bought pushed toward protection,” referred to Kjeldsen, who pointed out he worked on the NYPD program from roughly 2009 through 2013. “besides the fact that that hadn’t been their focus up to that factor, that’s where demand changed into.”
IBM’s first main urban video surveillance mission changed into with the Chicago Police offshoot and began around 2005, in response to Kjeldsen. The department let IBM scan with the know-how in downtown Chicago unless 2013, however the collaboration wasn’t viewed as a genuine enterprise partnership. “Chicago become every separate the time referred to as, it’s now not a actual — these guys aren’t a actual consumer. this is variety of a building, a collaboration with Chicago,” Kjeldsen stated. “Whereas manhattan, these guys had been a consumer. and they had expectations as a consequence.”
The NYPD obtained IBM’s video analytics utility as one a partake of the domain consciousness system, a shared venture of the police branch and Microsoft that centralized an unlimited net of surveillance sensors in lessen and midtown manhattan — together with cameras, license plate readers, and radiation detectors — into a unified dashboard. IBM entered the image as a subcontractor to Microsoft subsidiary Vexcel in 2007, as a partake of a undertaking cost $60.7 million over six years, in keeping with the inside IBM documents.
In vast apple, the terrorist risk “turned into a simple selling element,” recalled Jonathan Connell, an IBM researcher who labored on the preparatory NYPD video analytics installation. “You say, ‘appear what the terrorists did before, they may near again, so you supply us some funds and we’ll station a digital camera there.”
A former NYPD technologist who helped design the lower ny protection Initiative, asking to talk on legacy citing fears of knowledgeable reprisal, verified IBM’s duty as a “strategic supplier.” “In their evaluation of video analytics carriers at the moment, they were well forward of everybody else in my personal estimation,” the technologist observed.
in line with interior IBM planning files, the NYPD started integrating IBM’s surveillance product in March 2010 for the reduce modern york safety Coordination middle, a counterterrorism command core launched by means of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly in 2008. In a “60 Minutes” tour of the command center in 2011, Jessica Tisch, then the NYPD’s director of policy and planning for counterterrorism, showed off the utility on glowing widescreen screens, demonstrating how it could draw up pictures and video clips of americans in crimson shirts. Tisch didn't point out the partnership with IBM.
throughout Kelly’s tenure as police commissioner, the NYPD quietly labored with IBM as the company confirmed out its protest awareness expertise on a opt for number of NYPD and subway cameras, in keeping with IBM documents. “We truly necessary to live in a position to examine out the algorithm,” pointed out Kjeldsen, who defined that the software would necessity to system huge portions of diverse photographs with the intent to find out how to alter to the differing lighting, shadows, and other environmental factors in its view. “We hold been practically the usage of the video for each things at the moment, taking it to the lab to secure to the bottom of considerations they had been having or to test with modern know-how,” Kjeldsen observed.
at the time, the offshoot hoped that video analytics would enrich analysts’ means to identify suspicious objects and persons in actual time in sensitive areas, in accordance with Conor McCourt, a retired NYPD counterterrorism sergeant who mentioned he used IBM’s application in its preparatory degrees.
“Say you hold a suspicious bag left in downtown manhattan, as a person working in the command middle,” McCourt noted. “It can live that the analytics saw the article sitting there for 5 minutes, and says, ‘seem, there’s an protest sitting there.’” Operators could then rewind the video or analyze different cameras neighborhood, he explained, to secure a brace of percentages as to who had left the article in the back of.
over the years, IBM personnel spoke of, they all started to become extra worried as they labored with the NYPD to enable the application to identify demographic features. via 2012, in line with the interior IBM files, researchers were trying out out the video analytics application on the bodies and faces of latest Yorkers, shooting and archiving their physical records as they walked in public or passed through subway turnstiles. With these close-up images, IBM refined its skill to hunt people on camera in keeping with a variety of prior to now undisclosed features, such as age, gender, hair color (referred to as “head colour”), the presence of facial hair — and epidermis tone. The documents reference meetings between NYPD personnel and IBM researchers to evaluate the construction of build identification searches performed at subway turnstile cameras.
“We were certainly worried about the station the heck this turned into going,” recalled Kjeldsen. “there were a few us that hold been every separate the time speaking about this, you know, ‘If this gets more advantageous, this can live an argument.’”
based on the NYPD, counterterrorism personnel accessed IBM’s fleshly search duty capabilities only for assessment functions, and that they had been available only to a handful of counterterrorism personnel. “while tools that featured both racial or skin tone search capabilities hold been offered to the NYPD, they hold been explicitly declined by means of the NYPD,” Donald, the NYPD spokesperson, pointed out. “where such tools got here with a test edition of the product, the testers were steered most effective to test other elements (apparel, eyeglasses, etc.), but now not to check or exercise the skin tone characteristic. That isn't because there would were anything else illegal or even incorrect about checking out or the exercise of these tools to search in the enviornment of a criminal crime for an image of a suspect that matched a description given by means of a victim or a witness. It changed into chiefly to obviate even the suggestion or appearance of any kind of technological racial profiling.” The NYPD ended its exercise of IBM’s video analytics application in 2016, Donald mentioned.
Donald stated that, at some factor in 2016 or early 2017, IBM approached the NYPD with an upgraded version of the video analytics program that may search for americans by artery of ethnicity. “The offshoot explicitly rejected that product,” he noted, “according to the inclusion of that modern search parameter.” In 2017, IBM launched quick-witted Video Analytics 2.0, a product with a build digicam surveillance skill that enables clients to detect americans captured on digicam by means of “ethnicity” tags, comparable to “Asian,” “Black,” and “White.”
Kjeldsen, the former IBM researcher who helped strengthen the company’s skin tone analytics with NYPD digital camera entry, eminent the department’s title that the NYPD without vicissitude confirmed and rejected the fleshly search elements become deceptive. “we'd hold not explored it had the NYPD instructed us, ‘We don’t want to achieve that,’” he observed. “No company goes to spend money where there’s no longer customer activity.”
Kjeldsen moreover delivered that the NYPD’s determination to enable IBM access to their cameras become essential for the evolution of the dermis tone search elements, noting that every separate over that duration, modern york metropolis served as the company’s “primary checking out area,” presenting the trade with considerable environmental ambit for software refinement.
“The extra different cases that you could exercise to boost your application, the superior it’s going be,” Kjeldsen noted. “That definitely pertains to individuals, epidermis tones, whatever thing it is you can live in a position to classify people as, and it moreover goes for clothing.”
The NYPD’s cooperation with IBM has considering the fact that served as a promoting constituent for the product at California condition college, Northridge. There, campus police chief Anne Glavin eminent the know-how enterprise IXP helped sell her on IBM’s protest identification product through citing the NYPD’s labor with the business. “They stated what it’s finished for modern york metropolis. IBM changed into very lots behind that, so this turned into most likely of remarkable activity to us,” Glavin observed.daily Policing, Civil Liberties concerns
The NYPD-IBM video analytics program become at the nascence estimated as a counterterrorism implement to live used in midtown and dwindle long island, according to Kjeldsen. besides the fact that children, the program turned into built-in perquisite through its checking out partake into dozens of cameras throughout the city. according to the previous NYPD technologist, it might hold been built-in into widely wide-spread crook investigations.
“All bureaus of the offshoot could build exercise of it,” spoke of the previous technologist, potentially helping detectives examine every thing from intercourse crimes to fraud instances. Kjeldsen spoke of cameras being placed at constructing entrances and nigh parking entrances to video parade for suspicious loiterers and deserted luggage.
Donald, the NYPD spokesperson, pointed out the application’s access became constrained to a minuscule number of counterterrorism officers, adding, “We don't seem to live sensible about any case the station video analytics became an constituent in an arrest or prosecution.”
Campus police at California condition university, Northridge, who adopted IBM’s software, said the fleshly search aspects were constructive in criminal investigations. requested about even if officers hold deployed the software’s capability to filter via pictures for suspects’ garb color, hair color, and epidermis tone, Captain Scott VanScoy at California condition school, Northridge, responded affirmatively, relaying a narrative about how tuition detectives were able to exercise such elements to immediately filter via their cameras and locate two suspects in a sexual assault case.
“We were able to select up the station they were at different areas from previous that evening and station a narrative together, so it saves us a ton of time,” Vanscoy talked about. “by the time they did the interviews, they already knew the yarn and they didn’t comprehend they had generic.”
Glavin, the chief of the campus police, introduced that surveillance cameras using IBM’s utility had been positioned strategically throughout the campus to trap capabilities security threats, reminiscent of car robberies or pupil protests. “So they mapped out some CCTV in that district and a route of commute to their leading administration building, which is now and again where americans will walk to build their considerations conventional and that they like to stand backyard that constructing,” Glavin observed. “no longer that we’re a vast protest campus, we’re in no artery a Berkeley, however made feel to delivery to construct the exterior digital camera tackle there.”
Civil liberties advocates screech they're alarmed via the NYPD’s secrecy in helping to boost a software with the handicap potential for mass racial profiling.
The identification technology IBM developed can live easily misused after an immense terrorist attack, argued Rachel Levinson-Waldman, senior tips within the Brennan core’s Liberty and country wide safety program. “no matter if or now not the perpetrator is Muslim, the presumption is commonly that she or he is,” she spoke of. “It’s light to imagine legislations enforcement jumping to a conclusion in regards to the ethnic and religious identity of a suspect, every separate of a sudden going to the database of stored video clips and brushing via it for any person who meets that physical description, after which calling people in for questioning on that basis.” IBM didn't observation on questions concerning the handicap exercise of its software for racial profiling. however, the trade did dispatch a remark to The Intercept stating that it was “probably the most first businesses any station to adopt a set of ideas for believe and transparency for brand modern technologies, together with AI programs.” The statement persisted on to clarify that IBM is “making publicly attainable to different businesses a dataset of annotations for more than 1,000,000 images to attend remedy probably the most biggest concerns in facial analysis — the shortcoming of divide statistics to instruct AI programs.”
Few laws naturally govern protest cognizance or the other styles of simulated intelligence included into video surveillance, in keeping with Clare Garvie, a legislation fellow at Georgetown law’s center on privacy and expertise. “Any sort of actual-time station monitoring might moreover raise a Fourth amendment inquiry,” Garvie referred to, citing a 2012 Supreme court docket case, united states v. Jones, that worried police monitoring a automobile’s path with no warrant and resulted in five justices suggesting that individuals may hold an inexpensive expectation of privacy in their public actions. moreover, she said, any kind of “identity-based surveillance” may compromise individuals’s appropriate to nameless public speech and affiliation.
Garvie mentioned that whereas facial consciousness expertise has been closely criticized for the haphazard of fraudulent matches, that possibility is even greater for an analytics system “tracking someone through different traits, just like the colour of their apparel and their height,” that don't seem to live pleasing qualities.
the former NYPD technologist acknowledged that video analytics systems could build errors, and eminent a examine where the utility had situation characterizing americans of color: “It’s not ever 100 percent.” but the program’s identification of handicap suspects become, he cited, most effective step one in a sequence of pursuits that heavily relies on human knowledge. “The expertise operators hand the records off to the detective,” mentioned the technologist. “you employ every separate of your databases to peer for competencies suspects and moreover you supply it to a witness to examine. … here's every separate about finding a means to shorten the time to capture the dismal people.”
Object identification classes could moreover unfairly drag people into police suspicion just as a result of common physical characteristics, in keeping with Jerome Greco, a digital forensics personnel legal professional at the prison aid Society, manhattan’s greatest public defenders firm. “I imagine a scenario where a vague description, like young black male in a hoodie, is fed into the system, and the application’s undisclosed algorithm identifies a person in a video going for walks a brace of blocks away from the scene of an incident,” Greco mentioned. “The police locate an excuse to cease him, and, after the stop, an officer says the particular person suits an contour from the past incident.” rapidly, Greco endured, “a man who was just going for walks in his personal regional” may well live charged with a serious crime without him or his attorney ever understanding “that it every separate stemmed from a covert application which he can't challenge.”
whereas the technology could live used for appropriate law enforcement work, Kjeldsen eminent that what him most about his venture become the secrecy he and his colleagues needed to retain. “We certainly couldn’t argue what cameras they hold been the exercise of, what capabilities they had been putting on cameras,” Kjeldsen observed. “They wanted to manage public credence and recognition of LMSI” — the reduce modern york security Initiative — “so they at every separate times had to live cautious about even that partake of it, that we’re involved, and who they were involved with, and what they had been doing.” (IBM didn't respond to a question about instructing its employees not to talk publicly about its labor with the NYPD.)
the manner the NYPD helped IBM enhance this know-how devoid of the public’s consent sets a deadly precedent, Kjeldsen argued.
“Are there certain activities that are nobody’s trade no matter what?” he asked. “Are there certain areas on the boundaries of public areas that hold an expectation of privateness? and then, how will they build tools to implement that? That’s where they want the conversation. That’s precisely why abilities of this should still become extra commonly accessible — so that they will device that out.”

Domino dynamo: this 20-year veteran buys you more bang for your buck than ever before. Martin Leon tells you about the virtues of Domino and how much mileage you can secure out of this dynamo of an application platform.Like this article? They recommend
I hold been a Domino developer for the past 13 years, and for as long as I hold been working with the platform, I am continually surprised and dismayed to hold to clarify to technical recruiters or interviewers what Lotus Domino is and what you can achieve with it. My dismay is because although there are a few key features that build Domino stand out from other application evolution platforms, I've heard repeatedly throughout my tenure as a Domino developer that "Domino is dead."
Thus, I write this article to set things straight.
There are a few key features that build Domino stand out from other application evolution platforms. In this article, I want to relate these features and expose you how they can profit your bottom line.
So what is Domino? Lotus Domino is an IBM product that has a history going back 20 years. At its core, Domino is a cross-platform application server. It provides security, database, mail, web, and job scheduling services. Also, Domino can live extended through add-ons to provide additional functionality.
Figure 1 A separate Domino server provides a wide variety of services.
The latest release of the Domino server is version 8.5. A Lotus Domino 8.5 server can live installed on Windows (Windows Server 2003 and 2008 including X64 versions), Linux (Novell SUSE and Red Hat Enterprise Linux), Sun Solaris, and IBM AIX 5.3 and 6.1.
Most people hold heard of "Lotus Notes" or "Notes Mail." The latter is a bit of a misnomer because mail is only one of the services and applications that near included in the platform. Within the platform the Lotus Notes Client is the "client" and Lotus Domino is the "server".
Originally, you purchased a Lotus Notes Server along with as many Lotus Notes Clients as you needed for your business. In 1995, when Notes R4.5 was released, the server portion of this client-server relationship came with an integrated HTTP server that provided web access to the Lotus Notes applications that it was hosting.
From that point on, you no longer needed to buy Lotus Notes Clients to access Notes applications, not even for the email application.
Now you had the option to exercise a web browser as your application client. HTTP integration marked the point when the server product began to live sold separately as the Lotus Domino Server and was a key turning point in how HTTP integration allows you to develop Domino applications targeted at web browsers in addition to, or instead of, the Lotus Notes Client.
ORLANDO, FL. - VoiceCon Conference - March 7, 2007 - IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced their intent to deliver a modern platform for unified communications and collaboration client development. Based on open technologies such as Eclipse and OSGi, the platform will accelerate application evolution by enabling developers to easily include a flush set of communications and collaboration capabilities in their solutions. Additionally, the companies announced plans to deliver specific customer offerings including a joint solution based on the modern client platform and a set of "plugins" that bring together the communications and collaboration capabilities of both companies.
At the core of the unified communications and collaboration (UC2) Client Platform will live an open set of application programming interfaces (APIs) offered by IBM as a subset of Lotus Sametime collaboration capabilities along with communication APIs provided by Cisco to access communications functionality such as voice and video services. The Lotus Sametime collaboration capabilities are built on IBM's Lotus Expeditor, which contains open technologies from OSGi and Eclipse. This allows customers and partners to build modern classes of applications and services that are easily managed and flee across desktops, laptops, web browsers, and mobile devices.
Cisco and IBM will adopt the UC2 Client Platform to develop their own unified communications and collaboration clients. Lotus Sametime 7.5 is based on this platform and IBM plans that future releases will continue to seize handicap of the platform. Cisco moreover intends to develop future versions of its Cisco Unified Personal Communicator client based on this client platform.
In addition, the two companies intend to labor together to promote the benefits of open technologies for evolution and will drive market adoption of the UC2 Client Platform among customers and partners. These activities are expected to include training, enablement and certification programs for developers, ISVs and unified communication providers.
A significant number of customers, developers, distributors and communications providers hold already expressed their champion for the UC2 Client Platform, including Berbee, Citrix Systems, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Nokia, Optimus, Presidio Networked Solutions, PSC Group, Radvision and Research in Motion. Comments from these companies may live organize at: newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2007/eKits/quotesheet_030707.pdf or ibm.com/lotus/uc2.
"Here at Coca-Cola Enterprises, they are focused on leveraging their technology investments to enhance their employee productivity," said Ray Repic, Chief Technology Architect at Coca-Cola Enterprises. "The competence to provide their users with a separate focal point for the plenary suite of applications they exercise every day, including such things as Cisco CallManager and Unity, Lotus Sametime and Notes is very strategic for us. The announced platform by Cisco and IBM will allow us to more fully integrate core applications as well as build additional applications to labor with them via open APIs. They praise IBM and Cisco for working together to drive integration of these core capabilities and peer forward to adoption of this vital effort."
An open approach to evolution represents a significant break for developers, ISVs and unified communications providers. Developers and ISVs hold access to the more than 2.3 million existing members of the Eclipse and OSGi evolution communities to seize handicap of this platform. Open APIs denote developers can create solutions with confidence, knowing that the APIs will not change at the whim of a vendor. Additionally, the necessity for unified communications providers and ISVs to recreate base UC2 capabilities is significantly reduced, saving time and evolution costs.
To attend ensure the UC2 Client Platform is accessible and rapidly adopted in the industry, IBM plans to tender the platform to developers at no saturate with minimal costs for champion and redistribution. A certification program is moreover planned for organizations that license the UC2 Client Platform, helping to ensure consistency between product deployments and allowing them to title compatibility with the platform.
The UC2 Client Platform is expected to live available second half of 2007 and an early software release is planned for developers and partners in the second quarter of this year.
Expanded IBM and Cisco Alliance Delivers modern Value to Customers
