world transaction IDs, full-textual content searches highlight MySQL 5.6 liberate | killexams.com real Questions and Pass4sure dumps

    Matt M. Casey, Contributor

After two years of building, Oracle Corp. has released its first all-in-apartment edition of MySQL. The MySQL 5.6 unencumber debuted in early February, and consultants declare it represents a sizable (even though no longer unmitigated) development over version 5.5.

"I regard there is whatever for each person in 5.6," pointed out Sheeri Cabral, senior database administrator and architect for Mozilla Corp. "As soon as I conclude upgrading entire of my machines to five.5, i may upgrade to five.6."

The upgraded define characteristic offers a sizable enlarge to experts coping with legacy techniques that are typically buried in layers of workarounds.

The recent edition offers raw performance advancements besides a batch of recent elements that get Cabral and others chuffed.

    MySQL 5.6 world transaction IDs

international transaction IDs give each and every motion within your MySQL database a unique opting for number recognized by means of entire of the machines within the system. This exchange, Cabral noted, reduces lots of drudgery when it breathe time to purchase a master down for preservation. in its status of the "very fiddly" system of syncing one slave to another, the brand recent international transaction IDs allow you alternate host with a simple command. The MySQL 5.6 unlock framework will purchase over from there -- but only if you desire it to. MySQL will simplify the transition with the aid of default, however administrators can soundless fiddle in the event that they wish to.

This trade is so "progressive," Cabral noted, that she will imagine individuals in exactly a number of years speaking in regards to the "old days" of getting to tinker with servers after a failure.

    MySQL 5.6 efficiency, full-text searches

in accordance with Oracle's notes, the MySQL 5.6 unencumber represents an about 200% transaction-per-second raise over 5.5 beneath some conditions, and its improvements should soundless shine brightest as directors add greater connections and CPU threads.

Giuseppe Maxia, who labored on the MySQL crew in a yoke of capacities from 2006 to 2010 and now heads first-class assurance for Continuent Inc., mentioned most of his shoppers should soundless descry a velocity enlarge simply with the aid of upgrading to five.6 without any extra optimization. youngsters, they should not forecast speeds as speedy as those advertised.

"The improvement is huge," talked about Maxia. "it's now not momentous. it's not innovative, nevertheless it's big."

whereas a few MySQL watchers, including Peter Zaitsev on the MySQL performance blog, acquire shown that the MySQL 5.6 unencumber is slower than 5.5 below some circumstances, Maxia said these claims are overblown. Observers draw those conclusions, he spoke of, via examining very inevitable and uncanny cases. Zaitsev himself wrote that his evaluation got here from a "worst-case situation" of a 5.6 implementation.

Maxia and Cabral each pointed out the recent InnoDB full-textual content searches excited them. in line with Oracle's DBA and Developer sheperd to What's recent in MySQL 5.6, the exchange permits administrators to "build full-text indexes on InnoDB tables" -- which, in flip, allows InnoDB to deal with notice- and phrase-based mostly searches without having to plug statistics outside of the table.

The instant outcome of this alternate, observed Maxia and Cabral, is that directors can jettison MyISAM tables. MyISAM -- which would not aid transactions -- had been saved round basically as a workaround for InnoDB's want of full-textual content search and tended to get methods less good. Now, Maxia stated, he can counsel any of his valued clientele soundless the usage of MyISAM to dispose of them and change up for a safer, more powerful environment that crashes less commonly.

"this can doubtless be, long term, the greatest improvement for searches," Maxia talked about.

    Upgraded define function, iffy integration

version 5.6 furthermore helps directors superior purchase into account how transactions will snake through their database. The upgraded clarify feature can now breathe used in conjunction with "insert," "replace," and "delete." The characteristic kicks out a description of which tables the feature will handle and how. As an extra bonus, the newly-stronger explanations may furthermore breathe interpreted by backyard JSON classes to create a visual representation of how and the status a given query affects a database.

whereas the role might tender a slight aid to newly minted administrators, Maxia pointed out that the role offers a sizable raise to the specialists dealing with legacy techniques that minister to breathe buried in layers of workarounds.

Maxia mentioned the recent equipment delight him universal -- and he brought that they should soundless doubtless delight everyone -- however he is involved at how they might drudgery together.

apart from the recent international transaction IDs, the MySQL 5.6 free up allows for parallel updates on recent multi-threaded slaves. each are excellent elements, Maxia observed, but he is institute that directors can most efficacious employ one or the different. For administrators who employ each, he talked about, "which you can salvage the job performed, however the job's not more straightforward."

How to precipitate up your MySQL with replication to in-memory database | killexams.com real questions and Pass4sure dumps

    Original article available at https://habrahabr.ru/company/mailru/blog/323870/

I’d relish to partake with you an article based on my talk at Tarantool Meetup (the video is in Russian, though). It’s a short narrative of why Mamba, one of the biggest dating websites in the world and the largest one in Russia, started using Tarantool. Why did they resolve to busy ourselves with MySQL-to-Tarantool replication?

First, they had to migrate to MySQL 5.7 at some point, but this version didn’t acquire HandlerSocket that was being actively used on their MySQL 5.6 servers. They even contacted the Percona team — and they confirmed MySQL 5.6 is the terminal version to acquire HandlerSocket.

Second, they gave Tarantool a try and were pleased with its performance. They compared it against Memcached as a key-value store and saw the precipitate double from 0.6 ms to 0.3 ms on the very hardware. In relative terms, Tarantool’s twice as speedy as Memcached. In absolute terms, it’s not that cool, but soundless impressive.

Third, they wanted to hold the all existing architecture. There’s a MySQL master server and its slaves — we didn’t want to change anything in this structure. Can MySQL 5.6 slaves with HandlerSocket breathe replaced with something else without having to get significant architectural changes?

We scholarly that the Mail.Ru Group team has a replicator they created for their own purposes. The understanding of replicating data from MySQL to Tarantool belongs to them. They asked the team to partake the source code, which they did. They had to rewrite the code, though, since it worked with MySQL 5.1 and Tarantool 1.5, not 1.7. The replicator uses libslave, an open-source solution for reading events from a MySQL master server, and is built statically without any of MySQL’s system libraries. It’s been open-sourced under the BSD license, so anyone can employ it for free.

    Replication constraints

Firstly, binary logs residing on a master must breathe row-based (STATEMENT and MIXED options won’t do, only ROW). Secondly, this replicator is not a Tarantool module, but a stand-alone daemon that doesn’t acquire anything to outcome with either Tarantool or MySQL. Thirdly, if you want a single master to have, say, ten slaves, you’ll acquire to flee ten divide daemons, because one replicator can replicate data to only one Tarantool instance at a time. Lastly, the replicator won’t drudgery with MariaDB. They tried it with versions 5.6 and 5.7, but they’re either an Oracle or a Percona build (which is what they use). MariaDB’s replication protocol has been changed.

    How does replication work?

MySQL and Tarantool know nothing about each other. The replicator reads entire the MySQL binary logs and writes the data to Tarantool.

    What can the replicator do?

When the replicator is run, it grabs entire the data from a master, based on the configuration file that specifies which databases/tables requisite to breathe replicated. That said, it takes just a Tarantool instance with bare spaces to launch the replicator — it’s very convenient.

As a system administrator, you requisite to understand if the replication process is working, which binary log and which position value are being read at the moment. Of course, the replicator provides such functionality: there’s a divide Tarantool space that contains just three values, including the binary log denomination and the current position value — you may regard it as an analog to well-behaved outmoded present SLAVE STATUS.> box.space.ReplicationLog:select() [0, ‘db-bin.024218’, 916925355]

After adopting the replicator, they deployed seven Tarantool instances running on only two servers, as a single Tarantool instance can’t employ entire the CPU cores of a machine at once. As a quick refresher of the Tarantool architecture, one instance is capable of using three cores or more: one core or more for network, strictly one core for transactions and strictly one core for handling write-ahead log (WAL) files.

After they ran the replicator, the workload on MySQL slaves with HandlerSocket dropped nigh to zero.

Then they tried to remove seven out of eight MySQL slave servers, and the remaining one was able to withstand entire the workload. They didn’t fully give up MySQL slave servers — we kept them for handling those requests that drudgery without HandlerSocket, which means they can complete the migration to MySQL 5.7. In the end, they saved at least seven servers, a number of enterprise SSDs that power them, and some rack space, electricity and money.

What about response time? They at Mamba acquire their own open-source product called BTP. Below are a yoke of charts it generated.

HandlerSocket has a very peculiar API. You requisite to first call connect, then open_index and, finally, execute. The chart above shows cumulative time for the three methods, which sometimes could breathe as towering as one second.

Compare it to what they got on Tarantool servers running the very database replicated from a MySQL master:

The intuition is quite simple: MySQL was running on SSDs, and the buffer pool size was less than that of the database. Tarantool, on the other hand, is an in-memory database, so entire the data is RAM-resident. They even disabled WAL files on almost entire the instances, so no disk operations are involved. However, there are several non-production instances used for snapshotting, where they kept WAL files enabled.

    Isn’t it reinventing the wheel?

If someone else told me about entire this, I’d say, “Aren’t you reinventing the wheel? You’re replicating something from MySQL to Tarantool. Sure, you’re thinking of dropping HandlerSocket in order to migrate to MySQL 5.7. But why would you outcome that in the first place? If your servers without HandlerSocket can’t wield the workload, just add some more servers. If you outcome requisite an in-memory database, you can create mound tables or plug database files to tmpfs, create symlinks — and entire the tables will breathe in RAM again. Bingo!”

However, that’s not how it is.

Here’s what so special about the replicator. Suppose the database that resides on a master and that they want to replicate contains about a hundred tables, but a slave doesn’t requisite entire these tables — it needs only seven of them. We’d dislike to spend extra resources on replicating surplus data. Luckily, MySQL allows specifying the number of tables to replicate. But what if these seven tables acquire 120 fields in total, whereas only 21 of them are actually used in queries handled by the slave servers? MySQL forces us to entirely replicate entire the seven tables, which purchase up about 80 GB of RAM in their case. The replicator, on the other hand, allows specifying a subset of table fields for replication, bringing the volume down to 20 GB.

What’s furthermore much about the replicator is that entire these table fields are build into one space, so you can select them with a single query, without using any joins.

Tarantool is really fast, up to three times faster than MySQL, as attested by the charts above.

The resulting implementation of Tarantool replication works faster than that in MySQL, and here’s why. When they first ran it, they couldn’t aid asking ourselves if their replication is consistent. They created a simple PHP script that compares the number of monthly dynamic users as reported by a MySQL master and a Tarantool slave. Sometimes the script grabbed even the users who registered less than a second ago. A MySQL slave didn’t acquire those users yet, whereas the Tarantool slave did, even though executing present SLAVE STATUS on the MySQL slave always showed a zero delay. That said, the information reaches Tarantool faster, since it’s an in-memory database.

    Tarantool’s advantages

What happens if you unplug a MySQL server power cable, then plug it back in and restart the server? At startup, the process of InnoDB recovery is launched, which consequently restores the database. But a yoke of times we’ve seen the following situation: the controller starts writing some inadequate information to disk, the server throws a kernel panic due to the controller malfunction and InnoDB recovery following the restart ends with a core dump.

Tarantool boasts a well-thought-out WAL mechanism: even if the controller does write some rubbish to a WAL file, which prevents you from relaunching Tarantool, you can simply delete this file. Or you could open it and delete records one by one until Tarantool is up and running again. As a side note, it’s feasible to specify the number of transactions written to a WAL file at a time — it can even breathe a single transaction. I’d relish to stress here that the MySQL instance I used above involves a hardware (server) failure; normally, InnoDB recovery works relish a charm.

What I furthermore relish about Tarantool is that it’s very user-friendly. It’s always pellucid what to outcome and how to outcome it. Suppose a recent MySQL version is out. You install it, but it won’t launch. After checking the oversight log, you determine some parameters in my.cnf are deprecated. Then you open the official documentation and descry a bunch of recent parameters, so you acquire to device out how to create a recent my.cnf file to boost the performance. Tarantool doesn’t acquire any of this. It’s effortless to use, with an absolutely necessary minimum of parameters.

Another thing they entire enjoyed is the Tarantool community. There’s a Telegram chat (ping Denis Anikin for an invite), where you can query the developers a question about Tarantool or salvage a quick bug fix.

Tarantool’s snapshotting implementation is excellent. This mechanism works incredibly fast — 800 MB or, probably, even 1 GB per second. Everything is written consecutively to a single file. You don’t requisite high-end disks for that, the cheapest SATA drives are more than enough. Starting a snapshot of a 20 GB database takes under five minutes. According to my measurements, MySQL requires much more time for that.

    Tarantool’s disadvantages

First and foremost, Tarantool indexes are case-sensitive, which is really inconvenient, especially if you arrive from the MySQL background.

Second, working in the console isn’t that comfortable. Say, how outcome you know that MySQL replication is running? You execute present SLAVE STATUS twice and descry the numbers change. Moreover, the MySQL console will present you the output of present SLAVE STATUS only once, even if you execute the command a hundred times.

The Tarantool console, on the other hand, displays a divide output each time you hit Enter. As a result, it takes a lot of time to scroll back up to a status you need.

Tarantool is a really well-behaved product that you can employ in your projects. It does acquire its drawbacks, but it’s constantly evolving. Now that it has data replication from MySQL, I hope it will grow even faster. Tarantool’s killer feature is, of course, its speed.

    Thank you and abide tuned!

MySQL vulnerability disclosed, status of patches uncertain | killexams.com real questions and Pass4sure dumps

A security researcher this week disclosed a zero-day MySQL vulnerability that could allow attackers to gain complete control of servers, though questions remain about whether or not the flaw had already been addressed by Oracle.

Dawid Golunski, the researcher who posted the advisory, reported the MySQL vulnerabilities on July 29 to Oracle, as well as to open source database vendors Percona and MariaDB, both of which were vulnerable to the very flaws as they are both MySQL forks. Golunski said both Percona and MariaDB had responded promptly and issued patches by the desist of August, but, having heard nothing from Oracle, Golunski decided to retrograde public with the first of the MySQL vulnerabilities he uncovered.

"As over 40 days acquire passed since reporting the issues and patches were already mentioned publicly," Golunski wrote, "a decision was made to start disclosing vulnerabilities (with limited PoC) to inform users about the risks before the vendor's next CPU update that only happens at the desist of October."

The flaws would allow an attacker to misuse MySQL logging functions on improperly configured systems. Golunski's proof of concept attack starts by injecting malicious configuration data into MySQL configuration files with indecent permissions. The next step is to create recent configuration files, after which attackers would breathe able to escalate their MySQL privileges.

Oracle declined to comment on  Golunski's MySQL vulnerability report. It's feasible that Oracle addressed some of the issues in the report prior to Golunski's disclosure. The MySQL patches were released on Sept. 6, for MySQL 5.7, 5.6 and 5.5, entire of which flaunt to address some of the flaws Golunski submitted under CVE-2016-6662.

"MySQL seems to acquire already released versions that comprise the security fixes [with MySQL 5.6.33]," Percona stated on its blog. None of the experts SearchSecurity spoke with could verify whether the Oracle patches released on Sept. 6 addressed the vulnerability, and Oracle has not released an official patch or security advisory that clarifies the situation.

    How grave is it?

The advisory, wrote Golunski, describes a critical vulnerability assigned to CVE-2016-6662, "which can allow attackers to (remotely) inject malicious settings into MySQL configuration files (my.cnf) leading to critical consequences."

If you aren't snug with quarterly patching, vote with your wallet. Jacob Williamsfounder, Rendition InfoSec LLC

MySQL servers using the default configuration in entire version branches, including the latest versions, were institute to breathe vulnerable, "and could breathe exploited by both local and remote attackers. Both the authenticated access to MySQL database (via network connection or web interfaces such as phpMyAdmin) and SQL injection could breathe used as exploitation vectors."

Experts were split on just how grave the MySQL vulnerability was. "It's serious, but it's not an unauthenticated vulnerability," said Jacob Williams, founder of consulting firm Rendition InfoSec LLC in Augusta, Ga. "Attackers requisite to acquire some artery to issue queries to the server to get this exploitable. This might happen through shared access to a server or through another vulnerability such as SQL injection. The problem is that very low-privileged users can access unintended -- and known risky -- functionality that was not intended. This causes significant problems in shared hosting environments where multiple users are given access to a single MySQL database instance and their permissions are controlled by the database administrator."

However, Dmitry Chastukhin, lead SAP security analyst at ERPscan, suggested that the advisory's title may acquire overstated the "Remote Root Code Execution" aspect of the flaw. "In reality it is a privilege escalation vulnerability, which allows an attacker to escalate his or her rights -- in some cases -- on a server and gain root user privileges, if she or he can change the my.cnf configuration file. How to outcome it -- remotely and anonymously -- is a different matter. It requires other security issues in applications and fragile configuration permissions on the server."

The attacker only needs to acquire some plane of write permission in the filesystem to exploit this type of vulnerability, according to Mordechai Guri, chief science officer at Morphisec. Guri told SearchSecurity, "This is considered to breathe an effortless chore on the attacker's part. It's necessary to note that these semi-logic vulnerabilities won't retrograde away and are proof that recent approaches relish pathetic target defense should breathe developed and deployed in many strata of the computer security stack, including operating systems, SQL language, et cetera."

    What to outcome about it?

Williams had some specific suggestions for enterprises concerned about the MySQL vulnerability, starting with controlling access to the database itself. Since any user with SELECT permissions can access the administrative logging functions exploited in the vulnerability, "the configuration files which are normally owned by the MySQL user should breathe changed so they are owned by another user, such as root, and not writeable by the MySQL user."

"Finally, MySQL reads additional configuration data from my.cnf files," Williams noted. "One location it may read these from, /var/lib/mysql, must continue to acquire write permissions enabled for the MySQL server. To preclude attackers from writing a my.cnf file in this location as MySQL users, they are advising administrators to write my.cnf files owned by root in any directory where the MySQL user has write permissions."

"In entire but extraordinary cases, MySQL should never breathe exposed to the open internet," said John Bambenek, manager of threat systems at Fidelis Cybersecurity in Waltham, Mass. "Ideally, a database server would behind a firewall in a measure three-tier design."

Oracle takes heat for its response

"Sometimes vulnerabilities can breathe complicated to patch and that could breathe delaying release," Bambenek said. "However, open communication with the researchers should breathe routine so that such issues are known. That said, considering other database platforms (PerconaDB and MariaDB) were able to patch, it calls into question whether complexity is really the issue for Oracle here. More importantly, Oracle should acquire developed some mitigation or something to protect enterprises in the meantime."

"Oracle's response to vulnerabilities involving open source projects must breathe more vigilant than those involving only closed source," Williams said. "Anyone can fork an open source project and they are likely to breathe notified as well when vulnerabilities are reported. If the open source project patches first, then Oracle's customers are exposed. I speculate it's pellucid that quarterly patching cycles are no longer sufficient in today's vulnerability research climate."

As for the takeaway for enterprises, Williams added, "If you aren't snug with quarterly patching, vote with your wallet. There are other database solutions out there and seeing Oracle hold to a quarterly patching schedule when open source forks acquire already patched is very troubling. Changing database engines is very expensive for an enterprise. If this conduct from Oracle continues, I'd definitely recommend examining your options."

"The fact that two other open source projects patched the very vulnerability before Oracle says a lot about their responsiveness," Williams said. "These are obviously grave vulnerabilities and because they are present in other projects, Oracle doesn't salvage to control the patch release timeline."

"In my opinion, this case is a well-behaved illustration of penniless interaction between Oracle PR and tech departments," Chastukhin said. "They could acquire responded to Golunski's report in due time and publicly announced that the vulnerability was not as risky as the researcher stated and the patch was already released. In this gyrate of events, Oracle could acquire become the winner of the situation."

"What outcome they acquire now? A pile of articles with harsh criticism and frustration of system administrators."

This is not the desist of the story, though. Golunski celebrated that "attackers could employ one of the other vulnerabilities discovered by the author of this advisory, which has been assigned a CVEID of CVE-2016-6663 and is pending disclosure. The undisclosed vulnerability makes it effortless for inevitable attackers to create /var/lib/mysql/my.cnf file with arbitrary contents without the FILE privilege requirement."
