Quest Software buys Provision Networks! Finally a challenger to Citrix in the app delivery space? | killexams.com actual questions and Pass4sure dumps

Quest Software has acquired Provision Networks. (press release) Provision's main product, "Virtual Application Suite," is an application and desktop delivery product that's very chilly but suffers from the fact that Provision is a minute company that no one's really heard of. But now that they're Part of Quest, this could change.

The market opportunity

The market is privilege for a actual competitor to Citrix in the “application delivery” space. (Or more specifically, the “Windows application delivery” space.) Citrix is huge, slack to develop current features, complete of quality-control issues (How many hotfixes gain they had to re-release?) and not really in touch with what the market wants (printing and profile management are still substantial issues ten years later).

Citrix has too grown comfortble not having any competition in this arena. Their Presentation Server product has truly had ten years of being the only option for server-based computing. (Really, their competition was convincing people that SBC was the passage to depart versus non-SBC. But if you went SBC, you went with Citrix. Citrix has been able to permeate any charge they want, and you had to pay it if you wanted SBC.)

Now Citrix sees VMware as their main competitor. Personally I umpire that’s a flaw in their strategy. Citrix’s “application delivery” messaging is perfect. They don’t gain to compete against VMware to breathe successful. I umpire Citrix is just envious of the fact that VMware’s market cap is 4x bigger than their's after three months being public, and they're envious that VMware got 2-3x as many people at VMworld than iForum after just three years. Of course Citrix is a public company, so their #1 duty is to shareholders (sorry customers, this is the reality of the world in 2007). Shareholders want growth, and Citrix can fetch more growth in the hardware virtualization space than in the pure application delivery space for the next few years. So is Citrix being loyal to themselves and their vision by going after XenSource? Does it even matter as long as they grow?

The problem is that I don't view server virtualization as anything more strategic than I view the option of server hardware vendor. sure it's "strategic" to some people (like those of us in IT accountable for running All these servers), but just as the traffic doesn't faith what hardware platform its servers Run on, it too doesn't faith whether they're virtualized or not.

IT is about applications. Applications are strategic to companies. The only reason servers exist is to champion applications. Citrix knows this. But for some reason they're chasing this hardware virtualization tangental market.

The time is privilege for someone to focus on application delivery and to challenge Citrix in this space. I umpire it will obtain both companies stronger and customers will breathe the ultimate winners.

What will Quest effect with Provision?

It's piquant that the press release from Quest mentioned them buying the "VDI vendor" Provision Networks. I know virtualization is hot. I know VDI is hot. But the actual reason I faith for Provision is because they bridge the gap between VDI and Terminal Server-based server-based computing. They view their "farms" as collections of resources for delivering applications and desktops, whether those Come from solitary user (VDI) or multi-user (TS) systems. But the press release makes me nervous because I hope that Quest doesn't view Provision as "just" a VDI vendor. (Of course Quest is a public company, so they gain the selfsame growth pressures that Citrix has. So if VDI is seared privilege now, then I guess that's what they feel they gain to do.)

I hope Quest will not try to enter the hypervisor or hypervisor management market. Forget the hypervisor. Let Citrix/Microsoft/VMware fight over that. That’s All sanctimonious battle territory anyway, and it’s going to breathe arduous for one vendor to convince people to replace whatever they have. Plus the VMware IPO and the Citrix XenSource purchase imply that Quest would gain to disburse passage too much to buy anything in the that space.

Instead I umpire there's still value in being "hypervisor-nuetral." When Citrix first announced Desktop Server, they marketed it as "desktop platform-neutral." They encouraged people to exhaust blades, Xen, VMware, Virtual Iron, or whatever they wanted. (Yay!) But as soon as they bought XenSource, they renamed "Citrix Desktop Server" to "Citrix XenDesktop" and bundled the Xen-based hypervisor and management into the product. At iForum they said, "Oh sure, of course we'll still champion 'other' virtualization solutions," but how effect you umpire that will really play out?

Provision Networks has done a remarkable job in the hypervisory-neutrality area. I hope that Quest continues this. Let the virtualization vendors fight each other over control of a commodity. Instead, Quest can truly focus on the application delivery. The market for terminal server add-on products has got to breathe in the $600M per year range. (Does anyone gain actual data on this?) The VDI market will probably breathe that substantial sort of soon too, but in addition to, not at the expense of, the TS-based SBC market.

Quest recently bought ScriptLogic (a company that's exhibited at Citrix iForum in years past). Hopefully they can integrate the ScriptLogic and Provision stuff into a solitary product. Maybe sling in some printing? (I gain to effect some further investigation into Provision's stuff here.) Maybe a kick-ass portal to tie together SBC apps and desktops and local apps and streamed app? Maybe tie in with some SSL-VPN vendors to hook application policies into endpoint scans? Maybe survey into some solutions for managing disk images? (Or maybe that's too immediate to the hardware virtualization space? I requisite to umpire about that some more.) All-in-all, I umpire Quest could obtain a very staid offering against Citrix. charge the entire thing at like $200 or $300 per user and they've got a winner!

The bottom line is that I hope Quest doesn't depart virtualization crazy and wreck this entire thing. I still umpire application delivery has some long legs, and the market really wants a option besides Citrix. So if Quest can sneak in there while Citrix is focusing on hardware virtualization, a dinky competition in the space will obtain everyone better in the end.

What is GDPR?

The generic Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, is one of the most necessary pieces of legislation ever passed for IT departments.

Approved by the European Union in April 2016 and set to Come into compel in the UK on May 25th, 2018, GDPR is hugely significant for businesses of All sizes as it will greatly move how they gather, store, and survey after their data.

The key tenets of GDPR concern the privacy rights of everyday users and the data they create online, and survey to bring together several existing laws and regulations to harmonise rulings across the European Union.

Under GDPR, companies will too gain to breathe more up front when collecting the personal data of customers - signification consent will requisite to breathe explicitly given, as well as the gatherers needing to detail the exact purpose that this data will breathe used for.

This personal data will too requisite to breathe encrypted by default as Part of a process known as pseudonymisation, signification that it cannot breathe linked to a specific person without being accompanied by extra information.

Personal data applies to a wide sweep of information - effectively anything that could breathe used to directly or indirectly identify a person online. This could comprehend names, email addresses, images, bank details, posts on gregarious networking websites, medical information, or even a computer IP address.

Users will too gain the privilege to know exactly what details a company or organisation holds about them, and too request that any of this information breathe deleted if they feel their rights to privacy are being infringed as Part of the current “right to erasure”.

Companies that suffer data breaches, whether fortuitous or as Part of a cyber-attack, will requisite to disclose this event to the apropos within 72 hours of it happening - although there is no requirement to notify users unless instructed.

Any organisation found to not breathe conforming to the current regulation after the May 25th deadline could visage massive fines, equivalent to four per cent of annual global turnover, or €20 million - whichever is greater.

GDPR FAQs

What does GDPR stand for?

GDPR stands for generic Data Protection Regulation, too officially known as EU Regulation 2016/679.

Does GDPR replace the DPA?

Yes,  GDPR will replace the UK's existing Data Protection Act, which was first drawn up in 1984.

GDPR is too designed to replace the Data Protection Directive, which initially came into compel in 1995, as the EU looks to bring together different regulations and legislation across the continent.

When will GDPR Come into force?

GDPR will become enforceable from 25 May 2018, following a two-year transition period.

Being a regulation rather than a directive, GDPR doesn’t require enabling laws to breathe passed by member states.

Why is GDPR important?

GDPR is the largest and most comprehensive piece of data regulation ever passed by the European Union, and as mentioned, seeks to unify several pre-existing pieces of legislation.

Because data protection concerns stretch across national boundaries, the introduction of GDPR seeks not just to regulate data within the EU. It seeks to extend EU data protection law to any organisation holding information on EU citizens, even if that organisation is based outside the EU.

For businesses, GDPR means keeping a much tighter rein on the data they possess, and should too help security awareness and protection levels for many. It too affects how companies collect and hold data on individuals such as customers, and governs the export of personal data beyond the EU’s boundaries.

For consumers, GDPR gives them much more clearly defined privacy protection when online. Companies will now gain to give definite notice when asking for personal information, and what they exhaust these details for. Under GDPR, consumers too fetch a "right to erasure", which is a step up from the current "right to breathe forgotten", signification they can apply to gain information about them publish online removed.

Who does GDPR apply to? Is my traffic affected by GDPR?

Short retort - yes. If you are a traffic that deals with online data in any way, you will requisite to comply with GDPR before next year’s deadline.

As mentioned before, if you fail to bring your organisation up to speed before May 25th, 2018, the EU rules state that you can breathe fined up to four per cent of annual global turnover, or €20 Million - whichever is greater.

Businesses will requisite to breathe able to demonstrate that they comply with the principles. To effect this they’ll requisite to gain documentation in residence that shows how they’re processing data, they may too requisite to designation a data protection officer.

Will GDPR apply after Brexit?

The UK’s determination to leave the European Union had thrown GDPR regulation into doubt, as a so-called Brexit would imply the country is no longer Part of the EU, and so would not breathe covered by the ruling - unless it chooses to effect so.

The UK Government has indicated it will survey to interject legislation equivalent to GDPR following Brexit - although there has been no official confirmation on exactly what this will breathe just yet.

For the moment, the EU states that, if you process data about individuals in the context of selling goods or services to citizens in other EU countries then you will requisite to comply with the GDPR irrespective as to whether or not the UK retains the GDPR post-Brexit.

If your traffic operations are solely contained to the UK, the position is more unclear, as it will depend on what determination the UK government takes in the coming months.

If you are based outside of the European Union, your traffic could well still requisite to comply with GDPR. The EU states that the rules will apply to All companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union, regardless of the company’s location.

Is GDPR retrospective?

No - the European Union adopted the two-year transition era in order to provide businesses with the time needed to ensure they are up to speed with GDPR.
